Wahlburgers at Downtown OWA

Hosted Press Event

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!! I had to work this weekend which for once I didn’t mind too much, it was crazy hot here and it also gave me some time off during the week for a quick trip down to Foley, Alabama. If you follow me on social media, you surely saw my posts from Wahlburgers at Downtown OWA and today I am going to give you a much closer look at this amazing restaurant!

Being a female child from the ’80s, you know I loved NKOTB so the Wahlberg name is a familiar name for my household. I still to this day have some love for Donnie and with the amazing reality series Wahlburgers from A&E, I have some love for Paul too! Needless to say, when I found out Paul was coming to Alabama, I had to meet him! Currently, there is only one Wahlburgers in Alabama and it is located at Downtown OWA in Foley. Which works out great…it’s super close to the beach too!

Wahlburgers has a great family-friendly atmosphere that is perfect for kicking back, enjoying some great food, and having some awesome laughs. The interior of the restaurant is filled with photos and memorabilia from the Wahlberg family and outdoor offers an amazing patio set up overlooking the lake at Downtown OWA.

Now for some drinks! I love trying out various cocktails at restaurants and this place does not let you down! There is truly something for everyone, even adult inspired frappes! Here are just a few of the beverages I tried out while at Wahlburgers. I honestly couldn’t pick a favorite!

Wahl-Tini
New Amsterdam Vodka, Pineapple Juice, & Strawberry Syrup
The Boston Margarita
El Jimador Silver Tequila, Orange Liqueur, Sour Mix, & Paul’s Housemade Orange-Cranberry Sauce
Wahlbrewski
This is a specialty brewed beer that is offered up on draft…..I wish I could buy this a take it home!

All of those beverages were perfect for cooling off from the Alabama heat but we were really here for the food! Wahlburgers is known for their tasty proprietary blend of brisket short rib and chuck patties and for this first-timer, they did not disappoint! I love burgers and have tried hundreds, the Fiesta Burger from Wahlburgers is in my top three for sure! While some chains love serving up greasy burgers to cover up flavorless toppings, Wahlburgers serve up burgers with outstanding taste and quality toppings.

The Fiesta Burger is a 1/2 lb. burger dusted with a housemade southwestern spice rub, fresh jalapeños, lettuce, pepper jack cheese, housemade salsa, chipotle mayo, and pickles. I was torn on getting this burger at first because a lot of spicy burgers I’ve had in the past are well, all about spice and not flavor but I had faith in Paul. Boy did he nail this burger! The spice was just right and allowed all the other amazing flavors to shine through. So delicious and cooked medium-well perfectly!

Another thing I love that Wahlburgers does that no one else really does, the sides are just that sides. You aren’t forced to have plain old fries or stuck figuring out how much you will pay to upgrade to something you truly want. You pick your burger and you pick your side, or not if you are watching the waistline….that I am not doing! Give me the sides!

Just like burgers, I love me some onion rings and pretty much order them anytime I am at a new restaurant. I am kind of an onion ring snob at this point in my life. I’ve had them every imaginable way, with every type of coating, and every type of sauce…..until this day! Yep, total curveball in my onion ring world! The Thin Crispy Onion Rings at Wahlburgers are started off slicing purple onions super thin and then lightly battered for the perfect deep-fried crispness. The batter is thin so it doesn’t mask the onions and doesn’t get soggy when fried. Pretty much just perfect onion rings! The housemade sauce was once again, delicious!

Another side item caught my eye so naturally, I had to give them a try too. I have never seen or heard of Sweet Potato Tots. What I had in mind was shredded type potato and what they were was something magical. The Sweet Potato Tots were tot like shaped morsels, with a crispy outside and a creamy sweet potato inside and topped off with a light sugar dusting. OMG!!! These could seriously be ordered as a dessert!

I had an absolutely wonderful time at Wahlburgers! The food was just amazing and the staff was so on point! I don’t think I have ever seen that many employees in one restaurant before! The employees were all extremely friendly and very professional. Our waitress was working a few tables, ours having 7 people, and she was on it. Drinks were never empty, food was brought out quickly and exactly as all had ordered, and anything we needed extra she took care of quickly.

With this being Paul’s first time in Alabama, he was very busy checking on things but made sure to take a moment to meet with guests, I included! We had the opportunity to sit down with Chef Paul for a few minutes and I can tell you all, yes he is genuinely that sweet and passionate about burgers. I saw him again much later that evening in the lobby at my hotel and yes, he was still working.

So have you tried out Wahlburgers yet? They are currently in 19 states and have lots of new stores opening this year and many more planned for next year! I am excited to know of two openings that are less than 2 hours away… I have a lot more burgers and drinks to try from them! If you are looking for a family-friendly destination with tons to do and good food, look at Downtown OWA! I’ll have more on them later in the week!

Thank you so much for stopping by today, I hope I’ve made you super hungry and dreaming of tasty food from Wahlburgers! <3

I was a guest at Wahlburgers but that does not influence my opinions in anyway.

A new one just opened not too far from me but it’s so jammed now that we are going to wait before going. The onion rings look great. I get sick from fried food but it won’t stop me from eating just a little of the order. Your post makes me hope we can go soon.

I didn’t even think of how busy they would be right after a grand opening! I hope you can get in there soon, you will love them! While the onion rings are fried, they weren’t super greasy that’s a plus for ya!

Glad you had a fun time! The sweet potato tots looked like a great idea and yummy. There’s one of these at the mall, but i’ve never been there. In MA, he engenders mixed emotions.

I have got to go here! I was excited reading about the cocktails, and then the burger, but the onion rings solidified it for me. I love onion rings, and most places are kinda meh with theirs. These look incredible!
